Johnny is the first proper short film I was ever the D.o.P on, and the accumulation of my year-long course at film school.
The experience taught me a lot about the importance of locations and art department in relation to cinematography, and about collaboration between departments, and how that affects the final image. It also taught me about working with directors, and I’m grateful to Stenn for (a) Pushing me as far as I could go, (b) Being incredibly patient with me and my team, and (c) Making me shoot day for night while pointing at windows with clouds moving in and out of the sun's way. The last one was a joke. I still have nightmares.
